El Presidente de Mercociudades e Intendente Fernando Gray expuso en la reunión de alto nivel de las Naciones Unidas

El presidente de Mercociudades e intendente de Esteban Echeverría, Fernando Gray, expuso en la Reunión de Alto Nivel de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas sobre la implementación de la Nueva Agenda Urbana, acompañado por autoridades de gobiernos locales de los cinco continentes.

“Es un orgullo participar de un encuentro tan importante y hacer oír la voz de las ciudades de Latinoamérica. Debemos trabajar en conjunto para proyectar una Nueva Agenda Urbana en clave regional, con el objetivo de reducir inequidades y asimetrías desde una perspectiva de género y sostenibilidad”, enfatizó Fernando Gray como representante de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL).

En este sentido, el presidente de Mercociudades -red integrada por 364 ciudades de América Latina- manifestó que “es esencial fortalecer las redes de trabajo e incrementar los vínculos entre los gobiernos locales y las agencias de financiamiento y cooperación internacional”.

Del panel correspondiente a la Comisión Regional Económica de las Naciones Unidas participaron el representante de la Junta Directiva de la Ciudad de Ginebra y vicepresidente de la Unión de Ciudades Suizas, Sami Kanaan; el funcionario del Reino de Lesotho, Lefu Manyokole; el alcalde de Kuala Lumpur (Malasia), Mahadi Che Ngah; el ministro de Obras Públicas y Viviendas de Jordania, H.E.Eng. Yahya Musa Kisbi; la directora de Bosques, Tierras y Vivienda de las Naciones Unidas, Paola Deda; y los representantes de las Comisiones Económicas para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) -Diego Aulestia-, para África (ECA), -Edlam Yemeru-, para Asia y el Pacífico (ESCAP) -Curt Garrigan-, y para Asia Occidental -Sukaina Al Nasrawi-.

PRESIDENT OF MERCOCIUDADES AND MAYOR FERNANDO GRAY SPEAKS AT HIGH-LEVEL MEETING TO ASSESS NEW URBAN AGENDA

President of Mercociudades and Mayor of Esteban Echeverría Fernando Gray has spoken at the High-Level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda among other local authorities from the five continents.

“I am honoured to have been invited to this High-Level Meeting and be able to raise the voice of the Latin-American cities. We must work jointly and collectively to successfully implement the New Urban Agenda with a view to tackling inequalities and asymmetries sustainably from a gender-inclusive, regional perspective,” held Fernando Gray as a representative of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

In line with this view, the President of the Latin-American 364-city network stated that “it is a priority for local governments to strengthen bonds and partnerships and work collectively with funding and international cooperation agencies.

Among the main participants that joined this UN Regional Economic Commission were Vice-president of the Union of Swiss Cities and member of the Board of the City of Geneva Sami Kanaan, representative of the Kingdom of Lesotho Lefu Manyokole, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur Mahadi Che Ngah, Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Kingdom of Jordan Yahya Musa Kisbi, Director of Forest, Land and Housing Division of the United Nations Paola Deda, representative of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean Diego Aulestia, member of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Edlam Yemeru, representative of the Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and member of the UN Economic Commission for Western Asia Sukaina Al Nasrawi.
